J Sainsbury plc, is the second-largest chain of supermarkets in the United Kingdom, with a 16.0% share of the supermarket sector. The holding company, J Sainsbury plc, is split into three divisions: Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd (including convenience shops), Sainsbury's Bank, and Argos. Sainsbury's basic earnings per share have been falling every year over the past five years, to 5.8p last year. Getting rid of the bank may help even out profits, but it did turn a small profit in the most recent year.
