Vonovia, with the majority of shares in Deutsche Wohnen agreed to sell 14,750 apartments in Berlin to the public sector for €2.46B (EUR) to public housing companies Degewo, Howoge and Berlinovo. The company’s consolidation with Deutsche Wohnen will significantly increase its market share in Berlin as Vonovia holds an overall share of around 87.6% of the voting rights. One part of the merger is the Zukunfts- und Sozialpakt Wohnen (Future and Social Pact for Housing), concluded with the state of Berlin committing to building 13,000 new apartments and implementing a voluntary cap on rents within Berlin finishing 2023. The German landlord reports their contribution to the UN SDG's like CO2 neutrality with every year targets formulating.
